Hawksbill Turtles

Ruby

November 2017

  • I love Hawksbill turtles because they have strong shells and beaks. They have beautiful green colours on their shells

I have seen real Hawksbill turtles before on Treasure Island in Fiji. We did a turtle release. The ones we released were about one and a half years old. When they are about 30 years old they go back to the beach to lay eggs in holes in the sand.

It is sad because Hawksbills are critically endangered, they eat lots of plastic in the oceans. Plastic bags look like their jelly fish dinners. We can help protect turtles by not using any plastic or reusing the plastic we have.

Lets look after the Hawksbill turtles!

AMAZING HAWKSBILL FACTS… Hawksbill turtles can live up to 100 years but their average age is 30 to 50 years.
Hawksbill turtle shells can grow to around 1metre in length.
Hawksbill turtles favourite food is sponges, they also eat fish and sea grasses.
In their nests they can lay up to 150 eggs!
Hawksbill turtles often nest on the same beach they were born on.
