I took this photo on the beach at Mount Maunganui. You usually see them hopping about on the sand.

I have never known much about sandhoppers and am quite interested in them. I've always wondered how many legs they have but it is extremely hard to count.

Here is what I've found out: sandhoppers are 1 to 2 centimetres long and can jump as high as 40 centimetres, which is 40 times their height! Imagine if we could jump that high.
